(GermanPolicy.com) – On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the friendship treaty between France and Germany – once signed between President de Gaulle and Chancellor Adenauer – the current French President Macron and German Chancellor Scholz announced last weekend that they want to drive reforms in Europe.

One cannot be self-confident by going into national isolation, Scholz pointed out. Both governments are committed to a sovereign Europe, he added. Macron emphasized the pioneering role of the countries. As two strong partners, France and Germany want to push through the necessary reforms in the policy areas of energy, the military, as well as food.

Following the speeches, a joint Council of Ministers was held in Paris.
