(de-news.net) – Federal Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger (CDU) has announced plans to convene a ministerial meeting during the summer recess to establish a ‘relief cabinet’ aimed at substantially reducing bureaucratic expenditures across federal agencies. He has emphasized the imperative of dismantling entrenched administrative structures and restoring greater autonomy and trust to citizens and enterprises.

At the cabinet retreat scheduled for late September, Wildberger intends to present a comprehensive reform agenda, with particular emphasis on state modernization. In preparation, he has formally addressed all federal ministries, requesting the submission of concrete proposals for bureaucratic reduction by 15 September. The correspondence reportedly underscores the strategic importance of the initiative and indicates that representatives from his ministry will engage with individual departments to assess the current status of relevant measures.

The minister’s objective is to achieve a reduction in bureaucratic costs amounting to 16 billion euros, representing approximately 25 percent of current expenditures. A strategy document issued by his ministry suggests that such savings necessitate the elimination of substantial regulatory burdens rather than incremental adjustments. Furthermore, consideration is being given to the implementation of a “one-in-two-out” regulatory principle, whereby any new administrative requirement must be offset by two corresponding deregulatory actions.
