(de-news.net) – The SPD and the CDU/CSU parliamentary factions have reached a consensus to establish an Enquete Commission, within the Bundestag, for the purpose of conducting an exhaustive inquiry into the outbreak and management of the COVID-19 pandemic. This commission is to be composed of fourteen parliamentary representatives and an equal number of external experts drawn from scientific, societal, and sector-specific institutions. Preliminary reports suggest that CDU parliamentarian Franziska Hoppermann is under consideration for the chairmanship.

Entitled “Review of the COVID-19 Pandemic and Lessons for Future Pandemics,” the commission’s mandate encompasses the systematic analysis of the pandemic’s genesis, trajectory, societal consequences, and the array of policy interventions employed. Principal areas of evaluation will include the proportionality, efficacy, and legal conformity of governmental measures, the repercussions for vulnerable demographic groups, and the elucidation of institutional responsibility and strategic deficiencies. Additionally, the commission will scrutinize procurement practices for critical medical resources—particularly protective masks, evaluating these processes with regard to transparency, legality, cost-efficiency, and timeliness.

Incorporating actors from both civil society and the political sphere, the initiative aspires to foster social reconciliation and derive insights free from partisan bias. The anticipated culmination of the commission’s work is to be a comprehensive final report, potentially containing legislative proposals intended to fortify national preparedness for prospective public health crises.
