(de-news.net) – The Union and SPD in the Bundestag called for a renewal of the “Pact for the Rule of Law” to strengthen the justice system. Dirk Wiese (SPD) emphasized the importance of a second pact. Andrea Lindholz (CSU) highlighted the overburdened justice system as a threat to the rule of law and inner security, advocating for more personnel and digitalization. Previously, ‘Bild am Sonntag’ had reported that 61 suspects had to be released from pre-trial detention in 2024 due to lengthy proceedings.

Green Party’s Canan Bayram described the shortage of 2,000 judges and prosecutors as alarming, with further retirements expected by 2030. She urged cooperation between federal and state governments to address these issues. Katrin Helling-Plahr (FDP) also called for swift action to address long procedural durations and enhance digitalization. The states were urged to ensure sufficient judicial staffing through proper hiring and funding practices.

The German Judges Association demanded an immediate program. Such a step would relieve the justice system by speeding up appointments and procedures.
