(de-news.net) – According to a recent study, Germany has almost halved its greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990 levels, thereby successfully attaining its 2024 climate goal. The think tank Agora Energiewende has noted that coal-based power generation has fallen to an unprecedented low. In 2024, carbon dioxide emissions were approximately 660 million tons, representing a 3% reduction from the previous year and a 48% decrease compared to the reference year of 1990.

The efficacy of climate protection measures, particularly within the electricity sector, is becoming increasingly evident. Germany has pledged to reduce its emissions by 65% by the year 2030, compared to 1990 levels.

However, in the transportation and building sectors, European benchmarks were not achieved. Consequently, the federal government is anticipated to acquire emission allowances from other countries for these sectors.
