(de-news.net) – Women will probably soon be entitled to take leave from work following a miscarriage. The former coalition parties — SPD, Greens, and FDP — have reportedly reached an agreement with the CDU/CSU on a legislative amendment concerning maternity protection, which could be enacted before the February Bundestag election. Under current legal provisions, women are generally prohibited from working for eight weeks postpartum. However, this does not extend to miscarriages, which are medically defined as the premature termination of a pregnancy up to the 24th week. The new regulation will commence earlier, with Family Minister Lisa Paus (Greens) advocating for protection from the 15th week, while the Union parties support it from the 13th week.
