(de-news.net) – Former Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP) anticipates that the Bundestag will approve the proposed constitutional amendment to strengthen the Federal Constitutional Court prior to the upcoming elections. He highlighted the significance of this initiative and emphasized that all involved political factions are in agreement with the already negotiated draft. Buschmann characterized the FDP as a constructive opposition party, willing to collaborate on beneficial legislative initiatives, while acknowledging that political negotiations often necessitate compromise.

The CDU-CSU faction has similarly voiced its support for the constitutional amendment, as well as for the extension of Bundestag mandates concerning Bundeswehr missions abroad and the proposed legislation on extending telephone surveillance. However, the Union parties have indicated that they will not cooperate on the pension package II nor the tax reform law designed to mitigate cold progression, the hidden tax increases caused by inflation. Furthermore, both the CDU and the CSU have made it clear that they will not support the government’s position on the Deutschlandticket question. The ticket allowing for local and regional transportation at a low price would remain only partially funded without the approval of the Bundestag.

Katharina Dröge, leader of the Green party faction in the Bundestag, stated that her party is committed to providing tax relief for citizens. The Greens had previously postponed addressing “cold progression” because such measures also benefited higher-income earners. In an interview, Dröge confirmed that the Greens will support the proposed law in the Bundestag.

Dröge expressed a preference for a more targeted approach, one that would specifically benefit lower and middle-income groups. However, she acknowledged that, in the absence of a majority, the party is faced with the choice of either accepting the entire law or rejecting it altogether. She emphasized that the Greens have never fully opposed the law, highlighting provisions within it that include positive measures, such as an increase in the basic tax allowance and higher child benefits.
