(de-news.net) – The TV channels Arte and 3sat are planned to be merged, according to a vote by the Federal States. Instead of ten channels, there will be four additional ones alongside the main ARD and ZDF programs, according to the German Länder. Channels like ARD alpha and ZDF info, tagesschau24 and Phoenix, as well as 3sat and Arte are to be combined. Arte opposes this, arguing it is not a niche channel and operates under a German-French treaty. The children’s channel ‘Kinderkanal’ and the youth TV service ‘funk’ will remain unchanged. Each regional broadcaster will be limited to four radio programs, with an additional one allowed per six million residents.
